Sex & Pornography Addiction Treatment

Sexual addiction and compulsive pornography use are not moral failures. They are complex behavioral conditions rooted in neurological patterns, trauma histories, attachment wounds, and emotional dysregulation. With the right support, lasting recovery is achievable.

Dr. AbdulAziz Syed is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) trained under Dr. Patrick Carnes' 30-task model. He blends faith-based perspectives into his clinical work to help people move through shame and into genuine, lasting recovery.

You may be struggling if you experience

  • Inability to stop sexual behaviors despite wanting to
  • Escalating need for more explicit or risky content
  • Significant impact on relationships, work, or daily functioning
  • Shame, secrecy, and repeated unsuccessful attempts to stop
  • Using sexual behavior to cope with stress, anxiety, or emotional pain
  • Loss of interest in real intimacy or relational connection

Our Clinical Approach

Dr. AbdulAziz draws from the CSAT framework and Dr. Patrick Carnes' 30-task model, a structured, evidence-based path through recovery. The first steps focus on breaking denial, getting support, and building a personalized recovery plan.

From there, we run several assessments to gauge the level of severity and understand the full picture of what someone is experiencing. Using those results, we create a structured, personalized recovery plan that gives clients a clear path forward — with concrete tasks, milestones, and support built in at every stage.

Recovery Workgroups

Our Recovery Workgroups are structured, peer support programs facilitated by qualified facilitators, combining psychoeducation, evidence-based curriculum, and the healing power of shared community. Each group follows a dedicated workbook and meets over 8–12 weeks, providing a consistent, accountable environment for sustained recovery.

Unlike open support groups, Recovery Workgroups are closed cohorts, meaning the same participants journey through the material together, building trust, accountability, and genuine community over time.

Betrayal Trauma Support & Healing

When a partner discovers sexual addiction or infidelity, the impact is profound and far-reaching. Betrayal trauma is a legitimate clinical condition, not merely "being upset," and it deserves specialized, compassionate treatment in its own right.

Betrayal trauma occurs when someone we depend on for safety and attachment causes harm through deception. Partners of those with sexual addiction frequently experience symptoms consistent with PTSD, including hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, emotional dysregulation, and disrupted sense of self and reality.

Individual Therapy for Partners

Dedicated one-on-one therapy focused entirely on the partner's healing — processing the trauma, rebuilding identity, and establishing clarity about the path forward.

Betrayal Trauma Support Group

A facilitated group for partners to connect with others who understand their experience, reducing isolation, validating responses, and building a community of mutual support and recovery.

Psychoeducation & Disclosure Support

Clinical guidance through the disclosure process, understanding what happened, what it means, and how to make informed decisions about the relationship from a place of clarity rather than crisis.

"
Your pain is real. Your confusion is valid. Your healing matters, independent of any decision you make about your relationship.

Partners of those with sexual addiction are often told they need to "work on themselves" to save the relationship. At Journey Home Center, we center your healing, full stop. Whether you stay, separate, or are still deciding, you deserve dedicated, expert clinical support.

Our clinicians are trained in betrayal trauma and understand the unique complexity of this wound. We will never pressure a particular outcome; we only support your process of healing and informed decision-making.

01

Safety & stabilization: grounding you in the immediate aftermath

02

Trauma processing: working through the emotional and psychological impact

03

Rebuilding identity & self-trust: reclaiming who you are

04

Informed decision-making: clarity about your relationship and your future

Couples Healing & Relationship Restoration

Some couples, once the crisis of discovery has been addressed and individual healing is underway, choose to work toward rebuilding their relationship. This is a complex, courageous, and entirely possible endeavor, with the right clinical support.

Couples therapy in the context of sexual addiction is highly specialized. It is not standard couples counseling, as it requires clinical fluency in addiction, betrayal trauma, attachment, and the specific relational dynamics that emerge in this context. Our therapists are trained for exactly this work.

I

Crisis Stabilization

Establishing safety, communication protocols, and immediate structure for both partners during the acute phase following disclosure.

II

Disclosure & Understanding

Clinician-guided formal disclosure process, ensuring both partners receive the information needed to move forward with clarity and as much integrity as possible.

III

Rebuilding Trust

Structured, accountability-based work to rebuild broken trust, including transparency practices, amends, and earned verification of change over time.

IV

Relational Transformation

Moving beyond surviving the crisis toward building a genuinely new relationship, with deeper intimacy, communication, and mutual understanding.

Is couples therapy right for us right now?

Couples therapy is most effective when both partners have access to individual support alongside joint sessions. We typically recommend that both partners be engaged in individual therapy before or concurrent with couples work.

A consultation with one of our clinicians can help you assess readiness and determine the most appropriate path forward for your unique situation.
